Harvest 2023
Today on November 1st, we finally finished our harvest of 2023. It was a long harvest, to be exact, it was the longest harvest we ever did at Zambartas Wineries. Starting in early August with the French varieties, which ripened early due to the heat, we continued throughout all of August, September and finally harvested our last Xynisteri on 31 October.
It hasn’t been an easy harvest this year, with the unusual weather patterns affecting the ripening process and sometimes delaying the harvest. The consecutive summer heat from July and August, continued throughout most of September, with early October throwing in heavy showers of hail and rain. Some varieties struggled to ripen, first due to (too much)heat and later due to water, which they normally do not get this time of the year.
We are confident though that with the best possible efforts of our viticulturalist Christodoulos and the meticulous work Charis, Marcos & team in the cellar, we will be crafting the wines that you know from us, despite the setbacks. The enology team has even found time during this hectic year to create new wines and styles, which we will be releasing in 2024.
We could not have lasted for 3 full months of hectic days without our fantastic team. All of them worked very hard and showed great determination to get the job done!
